TOP TIP:

IMAGINE WHAT YOU WANT YOUR SESSION TO LOOK LIKE. DREAM ABOUT IT. THE WARDROBE. THE CLIENTS. THE EDITING STYLE. LITERALLY EVERYTHING. THEN MANIFEST IT. SPEAK IT OUT-LOUD AND IT WILL COME TO YOU.

Start with thinking about what you’re passionate about. What brings you JOY when shooting?

Is it a maternity session where you can concentrate on just the mama? Is it a family session with the kids running around and having fun? Maybe it’s a senior session where your focus is simply on them. Either way you’re literally going to dream about it.

What makes those sessions special to you?

For me I absolutely LOVE my families and getting to watch my clients grow and create magic for them each season of their lives. BUT, secretly, I LOVE maternity sessions. I get to focus on the mama and her becoming a mama. I get to create magical imagery for her to keep forever in remembrance to her glowing body and how she felt growing her little one.

You may be wondering…..

How do you book your Dream Session?

A lot of times this will come with making a model call. Model calls are so special because it means you truly get to create from the heart. When you book a regular session you don’t always get to fully shoot what you want. Your clients may need or want something specific and it may not be your full cup of tea and thats ok! You can still sneak in and make it authentic to you!

Let’s get back to model calls though.

Steps to BOOKING A MODEL CALL:

This can sound overwhelming but it’s not, like, at all!

  • Focus on what brings you joy in this moment. What have you been thinking about? Dreaming about? Think about what’s been an inspiration and put your own spin on it. NOW, Let’s bring that to life!
  • It’s time to build your post. I always like to make a Canva template with one of my best images (for marketing purposes)..Preferably use one that is leaning towards what you’re wanting to shoot. (Ex: If you want to shoot a family, make it with a family photo.) Canva is a free way to make your marketing posts more aesthetically pleasing. (You can pay to have access to everything on the platform but you don’t have to purchase it to make what you want.)
  • Go into Canva, search for a template for the social media platform you want to make the post on. For example: search Instagram template and it will pop up either “create blank” or you can use one they have already made.
  • In your model call you are going to include:
  • Who your target client is
  • Why you want to shoot this specific scenario
  • What you are looking for
  • The more details you provide the more you are likely to find that client.
  • Once you build the marketing template you are going to post it to your social media account/accounts.
  • I always make a post on my instagram stories and business Facebook page. This is simply what works for me and my business.

If your model call doesn’t get any hits, think about your ideal client. What do they look like? Where do they work? What is their life like? Do they have a following? These things are important when it comes to your dream session and who you are wanting to shoot.

You can eventually book your dream session every time, it just takes TIME to build that clientele. I’m still in that process and this is my 4th official year in business. So just know to keep pushing and keep doing you! There’s room for everyone in the photography world you just have to make your own spot!

I really hope this helps you shoot your dream session and I can’t wait to see what you create!
