I'm so glad you're here! I absolutely love sharing my knowledge and experience in these educational blog posts. I have always loved teaching since I was a little girl. This is an outlet I have that I hope and pray will reach the right people! I want this to give you the guidance you need to achieve your dream maternity session! So let's get to it!
When I book a maternity session the first thing I do is send out my detailed maternity questionnaire. This helps me get a feel for the mamas personality and helps me get to know her better. The questionnaire is sooooo important, for any session really, but these certain questions will help you understand your clients journey and prompt her to really tell HER story.
Tip:
(Book your maternity clients 28-32 weeks; at this point in time the mama may not feel too bad and is definitely poppin'.)
Now let’s talk about PROMPTS + POSES for Maternity Sessions.
When prompting your maternity client you want her to feel beautiful; part of this is wardrobe/styling and the other part is how you prompt and pose her.
Below are a list of a few of my favorite prompts with images I’ve taken to go with them. They are all similar in their own way simply because you want the focus to be on mama and baby.
Look over your shoulder while cradling your bump, now close your eyes and whip your hair to one side.
Breathe in and think about holding your sweet bundle of joy.
Turn to the side and cradle your bump.
Now toss your hair around and breathe this moment in with you and your baby.
Cradle your bump, as your run your other hand through your hair.
Show your fierce mama bear model face.
Hold your belly while kneeling, look down your shoulder facing me.
Think about the day you're going to get to hold your baby for the first time.
You want your client to feel like a glowing mama goddess and in order to do that you need to lead her to feel this way. Here’s a few tips!
- Talk her into getting pampered for the session; hair, nails, makeup.. all of it.
- Guide her to wear flattering wardrobe pieces. If you have a client closet send her pieces you think will work for her or send her a style board with inspiration.
- Make sure you are giving a top notch experience. You don’t want her to feel underwhelmed and like you didn’t make her feel beautiful. Trust me, she will tell her girlfriends and you want to gain that clientele.
I love creating artistic imagery for maternity clients. It's so easy to do when you plan ahead! So be sure to talk with your client and see what they envision for their session. If you have something in mind you've been wanting to bring to life, explain it to them and they will more than likely be down. 90% of the time if you are being chosen by them they're going to trust YOU in guiding them in the right direction. If they chose you they've looked at your art/work and want the experience you provide. So be confident in yourself and what you want to achieve and for your creative heart and business. When you try to portray someone else's art you aren't staying true to yourself. If I've learned anything it's to always GO FOR IT, go for the different, go for the unknown, go for YOUR vision and MAKE YOUR OWN ART!
This guide will give you the tools you need to gift your clients a beautiful curated maternity gallery. It's full of my favorite prompts I use at almost every maternity session! I truly hope you put these to your collection and love them as much as I do! Please snag you a guide and get your brain flowing with new creative ideas! Can't wait to see what you create!
